Butler and Wells Far Go ( 9.5 miles )

A cold wet morning but by two o'clock the weather had cleared. First away was NSFT followed at a respectable distance by Bell, Whitworth, Coatsworth and Park. The pairings that followed Les and Bakewell, Riley, Potterton, Tom and Wilson, FT and McHarry could be seen spread over the moor.

Bringing up the rear was Blackshaw, Stan, Jacko, Ade and Bloodless. The Hon Sec took on the role of voyeur while Ruddock the younger was held captive by his dog in the pub.

Butler and Wells led the hellish legion over the breast of Wayoh and carried on eastwards via Red Earth and Holcombe Hey Farms from where we could see our goal, Peel Tower, on the horizon.

Up and up we went onto the snow covered hill. As we sped down towards Hawkshaw we thought we were in for an easy second half. Wrong. A sharp right turn as we entered the woods decimated the packs as they sought to regain trail.

The undulating nature of the trail, apart from the road sections, made the going tough. We were now nearing home, over the head of Jumbles, past the papperazzi and onto the road back to the pub.

We had no changing facilities and an outside bath followed by a nouveau cuisine meal.
